Today we saw Dr Faw an Ear/Nose/Throat specialist for a consultation on what to do about all of your repeat ear infections... he agreed with Dr. Johnson that this will help you feel better so you will both be getting them put in on Monday morning. The doctor said that you may still get ear infections but you won't feel as much pain, should recover faster and we might be able to use drops instead of antibiotics which would be nice to get off of.
You had to lay down on a big kid exam table while the doctor put a little funnel instrument in your ear and looked in with a scope. Lucas, you thought this was pretty cool but Gavin was very upset by it and you cried the whole time.
Since starting daycare you have been sick nonstop. It makes me sad that you are going through this because you are around sick kids now and I can't be home with you anymore. But I also see all of the great stuff you have learned at school. I know that if you didn't get sick now, you would get it when you started kindergarten anyway. I hope that you start to feel better soon, because you just can't seem to catch a break!
You have basically been on antibiotics since the week after you started daycare. It all started on Feb 24 with Gavin getting a staph infection (yuck!) we think you picked it up from the changing area. I took you both in to get the rash checked out and while we were there they took a peek at Lucas too, and it turns out that you had an ear infection and we didn't even know! You are a tough little man, who doesn't complain much.
From this point we have basically been in to see the doctor just about every 10 days. Gavin you got your first ear infection about a month after brother, on March 22. At first you were on different sick schedules, now we take you both in and get you checked at the same time. Sometimes Lucas' ears look worse, and sometimes it's Gavin's ears - but every time we leave with a new prescription.
Last time we went in and the doctor counted all of your ear infections; Lucas has had 8 and Gavin 7 in a few short months. This earned us a trip to the ENT doctor today where we learned that you both have ear infections again(even though you just finished antibiotics on Sunday). This has pretty much been the case, you finish antibiotics and within the next day or so you are coughing, have a runny nose and your eye gets crusty and you start pulling at your ears.
We have learned that you each have different signs of an ear infection. Lucas, you pull at your ears and walk around flashing baby gang signs all day with one finger in your ear and the others flash a peace sign. You still sleep fine and don't complain. Gavin, we know you have an ear infection when you stop sleeping well and don't want to lay down, it must hurt you to lay. You wake during the night and are just overall pretty cranky and want me to hold you most of the time.
Getting the ear tubes put in won't be fun, but I hope it will help you start to feel better! I know you will do great, it will be harder on me then you I am sure.
