Highlights from 2009

So much has happened this year, here are some of the highlights:

1. Gavin and Lucas are born - welcome to the world buddies!

2. We spend the first month of your lives at the NICU in Evergreen Hospital. Luckily not much medical intervention is needed (except for the 'apnea' where your brain forgets to tell your lungs to breath). It is a pretty emotional and scary time but you are doing so great!

3. First holidays - halloween, thanksgiving and christmas are so much more fun with babies!

4. We adjust to the world of babies, no sleep and develop a schedule so we can each get a 4-6 hour block of sleep at night alternating "shifts". We start the year on an every 2 hour baby schedule and gradually are getting more and more sleep.

5. I am able to stay home for 5 months and go back to work part time, my mom "gigi" comes the days I am at work, a long drive for her from Olympia but we are so happy to not enroll the boys in daycare for their first year of life!

6. We take our first big trips with the boys to Walla Wall for Easter to see the family and Spokane for 4th of July - I loved introducing the boys to one of my favorite places, the lake cabin on Loon Lake.

7. Gavin and Lucas become mobile babies at around 7 months, we have to really babyproof the condo! The crawling really starts at 10/11 months.

8. Teething is a huge pain for everyone, it makes the boys super grumpy (it hurts a lot I bet) and it is hard to know how to help make it better. The boys are big chewers. And start solid foods, they like pretty much anything we will give them to try and love to feed themselves.

9. The cute baby babbling is adorable and so fun to listen to. Gavin and Lucas will copy about any sound we make.

10. Even though Gavin was born with a full head of hair, and Lucas with peach fuzz we have bald babies as they start to wiggle a lot. The boys have patches of bald spots from rubbing their head on whatever they are laying on.
