Dear Gavin & Lucas | 9 months old!

Dear Gavin & Lucas,

I can’t believe you are 9 months old today baby boys! You are such busy babies and are learning new things every day. I have been very lucky since I had to go back to work that I get to be home with you every Thursday and Friday – these days that is more difficult since you are so active and I work and play with you boys at the same time. But, I love every minute with you and wouldn’t trade it for the world!

You have definitely found each other, Gavin you love to laugh at everything Lucas does it is so cute! Lucas you love to watch your brother while he is in the jump jump and you are driving the car – you “talk” and laugh for hours in those toys and I could sit and watch you two entertain each other forever! I love seeing that you will be best friends for life, and it starts this early! You both love to jump; especially when we sing your song “Gavin/Lucas likes to Jump Jump Jump” – you laugh so hard.

Your favorite toys these days are anything that makes noise! Gavin, yours is a Playskool busy poppin pals toy – where you push little doors with animals in them open and closed – you are getting really good at it. Lucas, you love the baby Einstein music toy with lights (but I really think your favorite toy is the iPhone/TV/Computer – you are a techy baby)! You both also like stacking cups, Tupperware and spoons to hit on your highchair and rattles. We play lots of games and can make you both laugh really easily, and you both love to sing songs and read books. Lucas, you love to be startled and when you laugh hard you get the hiccups. Gavin, you would rather hear funny words over and over in silly tones of voice – and have the funniest laugh (we have both of your cute little laughs on video!) Another new game is when you both throw all of your toys off of your highchair and wait for mommy to pick them up!

These days you both make so many new sounds. Lucas, you still prefer to yell/scream to get our attention and are getting really loud. Just this week you have found your ‘death scream’ I swear it sounds like you are hurt but you just want to be picked up. Sometimes it gives mommy a headache, but then you laugh or smile when we pick you up and it makes it all better. You think blowing raspberries is really funny, and you can sit for hours saying Buhhh – it must feel funny on your lips, silly boys! Gavin, you love to talk! This week you started saying M words like Mama, but I don’t think you know what it means quite yet.

You are definitely on the GO! Both of you finally know how to sit up on your own, though you still forget sometimes and fall over (Lucas especially since you lose interest!). Gavin, you have just figured out how to get up onto all 4’s and rock back and forth. You then launch yourself into whatever you were looking at, sometimes this makes you happy and sometimes you hit your head and that wasn’t the outcome you were looking for. Your scooting places is getting really fast, and it looks more like an army crawl than anything else – belly dragging on the floor. Most of the time you are after the cat, or an object you aren’t supposed to play with. Lucas you really don’t care about crawling or getting up off of your tummy. You have found something more practical and much faster than brother – rolling! You can roll over and over so fast that I can’t sit you down if I have to leave the room! Baby proofing just became a top priority to mommy and daddy!!!

Other firsts – you have tried many new foods and are onto snack foods you can feed yourself, Cheerios are your favorite. You are learning to drink water out of a sippy cup and just recently we all went out to dinner and you got to sit in a restaurant high chair! Of all the foods we have tried squash & sweet potatoes are your favorite and peas & green beans you really don’t like. You now eat solid food 3 times a day and have a bottle 4 times a day. Between the two of you, there are 3 teeth poking through (Lucas was the first to get teeth and 2 came in at once!). This means that you chew on everything. Lucas, just today I caught you rolling over to the chair and you started chewing on the leather – silly baby! Of all the milestones, the teeth made mommy feel like you are really growing up.

We have a pretty good routine going these days; your favorite time of day is at 6:30pm when we do bath time. Mommy or daddy gets in with one of you at a time and you sit in your bath chair and splash for awhile. Then comes mommy’s favorite time of day – when we feed you and snuggle while watching TV. This probably isn’t the typical baby night routine but we love to hold you while you fall asleep with the TV on in the background.

Every new cute thing you do brings new games we play and nicknames – it is just so much fun! A few of your nicknames: Gavin, Vin, Gavey-Baby, Gavey-Beans, Gavs, Gav-a-tron. Lucas, Luc, Luc-y, Luc-a-potomus, Luc-a-luc, Lucs. We love having two babies, so we don’t have to share just one! Though, mommy and daddy often say “aren’t you glad there aren’t 3 of them, that would be too much!”.

You are so precious and are growing up way too fast!

I love you,
Mommy
